Drivers told 22News, the ongoing roadwork aggravates an already treacherous ride entering 1-91 traffic at the Longmeadow curve.
Travelers across the U.S. will be on the roads, riding the rails and in the air this Memorial Day Weekend, the largest number in more than a decade.
In 2013 there were 4,735 pedestrians killed and an estimated 66,000 injured in traffic crashes in the United States.
Traffic was closed at that section just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Lane closures in Palmer and Brimfield may cause delays during overnight hours for paving through Friday morning.
Crews will be reclaiming and resurfacing the road, and some traffic and delays are expected.
