FLORENCE, Kent. (WLWT) - The Northern Kentucky Technical Rescue Team rescued a dog Sunday after it fell through a frozen pond.

The rescue team responded to the call in Florence about 10 a.m. Sunday after callers said a husky who had wandered onto some ice fell through.

"She is part of the family. She was probably not even as big as her head is now (when I got her). She's like my child I guess I would say," Jose, the dog's owner, said.

Responders tried to break a path in the ice for the dog to swim back to shore. When that didn't work, they called in the water rescue team.

It took crews about 20 minutes to rescue the dog. Firefighters said the 1-year-old husky mix named Ali was conscious.

Jose said he thought Ali was close to giving up.

"It was pretty scary. There was one point when she stopped completely," he said.
