SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Dressing up and trick or treating is a fun Halloween tradition, but it can be downright scary for your pets if you are not careful.
Members of the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society want to remind you that a constant ringing doorbell and people showing up in costumes can stress your pets out. They may even attack trick-or-treaters if you are not careful.
Leslie Harris, the executive director at Dakin suggests keeping them away from the door.
"It's a good idea to let them have a relaxing evening by putting them away from the door, by putting them in a room with soft music where they can be comfortable and not stressed out every time the doorbell rings. I know at my house, I'll be on the porch so my door isn’t ringing every five minutes," Harris said.
She adds that you should only dress your pet up if he or she responds well to it.
