(NBCNC) - NBC's supernatural drama "Grimm" normally corners the Friday night market for "things that go bump in the night" but tonight with Halloween just around the corner it gets a special companion
show as its lead-in tonight.

"Mockingbird Lane" is a remake of "The Munsters", the campy sitcom classic from the 60s.

1313 Mockingbird Lane was home to the the Munster family almost 50 years ago.

The place looks different now, as do Herman and Lily Munster.

"While it is an homage to the original, I think it's going to be very enjoyable for people who don't know the original," says new "Herman Munster" Jerry O'Connell.

This time around there's no laugh track, but lots of special effects and definitely more of an edge.

While this new version does echo the original, the vibe is unique.

"It is imaginative, it is dark, it is dramatic and twisted and offbeat and funny, but weird funny," says Eddie Izzard, aka "Grandpa Munster".

"Mockingbird Lane" is airing as a one time special, but NBC says if it scares up enough of an audience the show could become a weekly series next year.
