(WWLP) - I suppose Lincoln historians forgot to mention that Vampires controlled the Confederacy during the Civil war. "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" wouldn't have been so ludicrous if they had only played it strictly for laughs.

Benjamin Walker blandly goes through the motions in his role as the great emancipator, who led a secret life during the time when political reporters looked the other way.

Rail splitting Abe swung a mean ax while battling the forces of darkness. But far be it from him to allow Vampires to take over the country. And of course, a smooth talking Southern gentleman was the Count Dracula of his day.

Aside from the bloodless acting and the anemic writing, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" suffers from a lifeless cinematic style. The picture never really comes to life. It just moves from one highly unlikely episode to the next.

This could have been a fun film with a sense of humor instead of a heavy handed clunker that can't quite cut it with one star.

"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" will have a tough time tracking down an audience.
