(WWLP) - Actors pray for the sort of role that just might win Jeff Bridges the Oscar in "Crazy Heart." Bridges' performance as the boozing, washed up county singer seeking redemption will take your breath away. To say that Bridges nails the character is truly an understatement.

Bridges does all of his own singing as he plays out the string of his faltering career. He goes from town to town bolstered by booze and the adulation of aging fans from way back when.

Maggie Gyllenhall is also up for a best supporting Oscar as the latest love of his life. she tries to meet him half way but the single mom knows she's in way over her head.

Bridges unforgettable performance leaves a searing imprint. He confesses to his old confidante Robert Duvall what a mess he's made of his life. Especially when Bridges, out of the clear blue sky, suddenly contacts the son he hasn't seen in 25 years.

Bridges' bittersweet saga plucks away at your heartstrings, because under that physical wreck of an alcoholic lurks a pretty decent guy.

The homespun drama is every bit as solid as Bridges remarkable performance as man suffering endless indignities. Jeff Bridges' only concern now is how in the world does he top this brilliant performance? "Crazy Heart" will touch your heart with 4 stars. That's because "Crazy Heart" hits all the right notes.
