Finally after all these years we're learning about the Army's secret weapon during the Vietnam war. Psychic soldiers with the souls of flower children.
These are "The Men Who Stare At Goats". Unfortunately, this
frequently amusing satire just doesn't hold together very well. But
the cast is superb, including Jeff Bridges as their crackpot Guru.
Reporter Ewan McGregor tracks down George Clooney, the last
of the self styled hippy warriors during the Iraq war.
McGregor's still having a tough time nailing an American accent. Clooney still slings to the mystical foolishness that Bridges brainwashed him into believing 30 years earlier.
Amusing moments here and there keeps "The Men Who Stare At Goats" from collapsing altogether, and it's good to see Kevin Spacey. Here's an actor who really knows how to steal a scene.
The picture's worth looking at about half the time. If McGregor's feeble attempt to sound like an American doesn't drive you batty, then Clooney's over the top antics most certainly will.
There's just too much repetition to the action. They can look at Goats until they're blue in the face and all the picture deserves are two stars. I wouldn't give Clooney and company a second look.
