Tweety and Wilson flew into Dakin when their family was no longer able to provide for their care. These are two very friendly, happy little parakeets. They are very vocal, their delightful chirping and songs are bound to brighten every day. Parakeets, also known as budgies, are actually members of the parrot family. In the wild, budgies live in large flocks with hundreds of birds. In a home, they particularly enjoy the company of other budgies. Budgies need room to fly. Ideally, a cage where they could fly from side to side would be preferable…or outside of cage supervised exercise time. The cage they are in for Pet Corner is actually about as small a cage as would be fair for them. Inside their house: the more mirrors the better for budgies – they love to look at themselves. Regular supplies of safe wood/fresh branches/chewable toys help keep their beaks and minds occupied. These smart little birds can live 7 to 10 years with adequate care. Fresh water, specially formulated pellets, and clean newspaper daily keep their habitat clean. Budgies are generally good in homes with children because of their gentle nature.
