1. I saw a doctor on TV say that Raspberry Ketones are the "#1 miracle in a bottle to burn fat". True?
Kelly, Holyoke
After this endorsement, web sites and stores quickly ran out of Raspberry Ketones. So did all these people who bought it waste their money? Probably.
Raspberry Ketones is the compound that gives raspberries that heavenly scent. In supplements it is man made since it is too expensive to extract it from raspberries.
So far, there has only been 1 animal study in which 12 overweight mice were fed a high fat diet. Six of the mice were given Raspberry Ketones and the other 6 were given no supplement. The group with no supplement gained weight and the Raspberry Ketones group did not gain weight. In addition, the dose of Raspberry Ketones given to the mice would be equivalent to giving humans a whole bottle a day.
Bottom line; wait for more research before buying Raspberry Ketones.
2. I get migraines. Can diet or supplements help?
Autumn, Internet
Try to keep records of your food intake and migraines to see what connections you can make.
Alcohol can be a common trigger but it may be beer or wine and not vodka.
If you regularly drink caffeinated beverages and miss some one day, you may find it triggers a migraine. So limit your caffeine to 200 milligrams or 1 cup of coffee a day and be consistent about it.
The American Academy of Neurology reports that a supplement of the herb butterbur can prevent migraines. It supports healthy blood flow to the brain. Recent clinical studies show taking 400 milligrams of the B vitamin Riboflavin for 3 months reduced migraines.
In addition, research shows a supplement of Co enzyme Q-10 can also help.
Discuss these with your doctor.
