(CNN) - It appears cats can get swine flu too. Last week an Iowa woman brought her sick cat into the small vet clinic at Iowa State. The cat wasn't eating and acted lethargic.
"We noticed the cat had labored breathing."
Dr. Al Jergens treated the 13 year old cat.
"We were able to do a very specific test that confirmed h1n1 in this cat ."
The owner reports the cat has improved 80-85%. Dr. Jergens and other doctors believe the cat got the virus from it's owners, because 2 of the 3 people in the home had been sick with flu like symptoms.
Now veterinarians at Iowa State want other cat owners to be aware.
