WASHINGTON D.C (Mass Appeal) - Today, fewer Americans are likely to earn a diploma than their parents, but volunteers can make a big difference in those statistics.

In fact, one hour a week of mentoring can help improve the acadmic success of a young person, and be the difference between going to college or not.

The United Way is launching an historic effort to recruit one million new volunteer readers, tutors and mentors over the next three years.  Stacey D. Stewart the Executive Vice President for Community Impact Leadership and Learning for the United Way and she has more information.
