Chicopee Boys and Girls Club

CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) - The Chicopee Boys and Girls Club mission is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. They are helping to shape future generations to make positive decisions that have an impact on the world.

Betsy Daley and Shawn Brooks, the President of the Board explains that the Boys and Girls Club are open when school is out so they provide a positive, safe place for kids to be.

The club is about giving kids an opportunity to try something new and to get away from some negative influences. But they're really about after school supports and teen center and giving kids fun places to be.

Their after school program is the largest. Obviously, they have homework help, but they also offer gym activities, a games room, etc.  They've added a performing arts and this summer were able to put up cinderella. They had a great collaboration with the performing arts program and the Elms College, and were able to get about 14 or 15 kids doing set design and acting.  They'll be able to continue that through the year. They also have competitive sports programs and a pretty involved teen center. They have about 350 teens they touch every week.

The age ranges from 6 - 18 years old.

Tthe Chicopee Boys and Girls Club also has some events coming up including Big Time Wrestling, a 6th Annual Charity Auction and a 6th annual Awards Dinner.  The information on these events are listed below:

6th Annual Charity Auction
October 1, 2010
Time: 6:00 pm
Admission: FREE

This year will again feature a mini "Taste of Chicopee" with local restuarants highlighting their signature dishes. Items available for bid include: gift certificates to area restaurants, sporting event, jewelry, golfers' packages, fitness club memberships, advertising packages and much more.

There will be an on-line auction feature again this year, beginning September 1, 2010. You can log on to www.bgcchicopee.cmarket.com to bid! On-line items include sports memorabilia, vacation get-aways, books, children's items and more.
