Hiring Our Heroes

CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) - Hiring a veteran isn't just the right thing to do; it's also the smart thing. Hiring Our Heroes is a program that helps to do just that. The program held a job fair Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus on Memorial Drive in Chicopee.

The event came to be after NBC news teamed-up with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to support our local veterans, by holding the job fair called, 'Hiring our heroes."

The U.S. Department of Labor says that, out of the hundreds of thousands of troops discharged every year, about 32-thousand of them become unemployed when they return home. And according to data from last year, about 1-million veterans were out of work, which means one out of every three veterans were looking for a job. That's almost double the unemployment rate of non-veterans.
