The YMCA, more than swimming, gym and camp

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Mass Appeal) - To many people, the YMCA means swimming, working out in their gym and attending camp. But the YMCA has so much more to it than that.

James Morton, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Springfield, says the mission of the YMCA  is to promote the balanced development of mind, body and spirit for all.

And, Mr. Morton says the "for all" is the important piece because regardless of someone's ability to pay or to afford membership for their programs, that they make sure that anyone in our community who needs their services has access to them.

Most people when they see the traditional "Y" Brand, they think of swimming, working out in their gym or attending camp.   However, Mr. Morton, says that our  YMCA and most YMCAs throughout the country do a whole lot more than provide the basic experiences.  They also provide: MOCHA program, Teen Parenting program, Before & After School programs, Subsidized Housing program, Road to Recovery program, etc.

If you're interested in becoming a member of the YMCA or finding out more about them, go to the "Ys" website: www.SpringfieldY.org
