About the YMCA of Greater Springfield:
The YMCA of Greater Springfield has the capacity to manage and expand program offerings existing in the towns of Agawam and West Springfield that are viable and relevant to the residents in these communities.
The Y-Express Wellness & Program Center emphasizes community impact and improvement through senior fitness programs, pre-school sports, aquatic safety, teen outreach, education and community service.
Site location: Shopping center on Springfield Street in Agawam, near Dave's Soda & Pet City, Furniture Depot
Operating the Y-Express is in line with YMCA movement principles, and will function primarily as a fitness & wellness and program center for youth, seniors and teens. It will offer a wide range of services and activities that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Because we have limited revenue streams, the successful opening of the Y-Express Wellness & Program Center will be reliant on funding from multiple sources as well as volunteers. In order for this to be accomplished, the Y is seeking assistance from foundations and private contributors, and volunteers in a project-planning and programming capacity.
We are proud to be working with town administrators and business leaders from both Agawam and West Springfield to see this project to fruition.
Financial and volunteer support will be vital to the successful operation of the Y-Express. We are in the process of raising $500,000 needed to create the facility.
The presence of the Y-Express in Agawam and West Springfield will help to address needs of the residents through innovative and needed programs and services. Pre-school, teen and senior programming will be our focus, as these populations have been identified by community leaders in both communities as underserved groups. The Y will provide programs that will address the ever-changing needs in the community with businesses, other not-for-profit organizations and government agencies, in a collaborative manner consistent with the Y's mission.
Facility/Site Amenities: The Y-Express will be a 7,000-8,000 square feet facility that will house the following for program and member services: Wellness Center, Meeting Space, Child Development Center, Technology Center, Member Lounge/Café.
