Choosing the right paint for your home!

CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) - Picking out paint colors can be quite a challenge and incredibly overwhelming. Amy Woolf, the owner of Amy Woolf Color Consulting, told us how to choose the right paint color for your home.

If you are thinking about painting, here are a few tips to make the process of selecting a color easier:

      When you go to the paint store and look at all those tiny chips it is important to remember that a color builds as it gets larger.  What looks like a "friendly" color on a tiny chip with become stronger on a larger sample.  That same color can approach overwhelming in your room.   When color is painted on all four walls, the color reflects back on itself and builds.  So remember that a little goes a long way.

      One trick is to avoid colors that are clear and find some that are toned down a little with either gray or brown.  Just as clear color gets stronger on the walls, a toned color will also be brighter.  What looks a little too muted on a small chip has a much better chance of being "just enough" on all four walls. 

           Sometimes, the toughest part of selecting a color is facing the literally thousands of options available at the paint stores.  If you can find a smaller, edited collection of colors you like, within a brand, that will often reduce the confusion.  So many colors in the larger collections just  don't make great wall colors for the majority of homeowners.  But a carefully chosen set of colors like some of the designer or historical
