Meet some of the animals up for adoption!
Name: Niley
Breed: Poodle/Bichon Frise
Age: 3 years old
Sex: Spayed Female
Color: White
About Niley:
I am a sweet girl who can be initially a bit shy when I first meet new folks. If you have a calm and gentle approach, I will soon be leaning up next to you for some pets and attention. I am looking for an adopter with previous experience - I will need a lot of help learning about housetraining. I'm sometimes shy meeting other dogs and prefer dogs who aren't too jumpy and pushy. I'm new at Dakin but the staff thinks I'd do best in a home with older, mature children.
Name: Biscuit
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 6 months
Sex: Neutered Male
Color: Buff
About Biscuit:
I'm a teenage boy who is full of fun. In my previous home, my daily agenda included playing, playing and more playing. More specifically, I enjoyed playing with toys of all kinds: water, toilet paper, and paper towels as well as with the resident humans, dogs and cats. I don't require expensive toys, I can make a game out of anything! In fact, I think it's safe to say I've never met anyone or anything that didn't scream "TOY" to me. Adopt me and let the games begin!
Name: Isis
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 4 years
Sex: Spayed Female
Color: White with black
About Isis:
Hi, my name is Isis. Did you know that my name in Egyptian means throne? Can I be the queen of your heart? I love all people and I enjoy being pet anywhere! If you pick me up, I will purr for you! Will you take me home and treat me like royalty? When I came to Dakin, my family said I didn't enjoy the company of other cats. I must have kept that a secret from them because I'm in one of the colony rooms here enjoying sitting on my throne while the minions are all around me. How do you like my black crown? Quite stunning!
Name: Smokey & Bandit
Breed: Ferrets
Age: 7 months
Sex: Spayed Females
Color: Smokey is lighter brown. Bandit is darker.
About Smokey & Bandit:
Smokey and Bandit are a bonded pair of ferret sisters who need to go home together. Ferrets enjoy living in pairs or groups because every day is a party. These inquisitive, happy little animals enjoy playing and cuddling together. Smokey and Bandit have a favorite toy: socks! S & B have happily coexisted with dogs, cats…even pot bellied pigs! This dynamic duo is social and very affectionate and is bound to make you laugh every day with their silly antics.
Name: Benji
Breed: Chihuahua mix
Age: 4 years
Sex: Neutered Male
Color: Black
About Benji:
I was very scared when I first came to Dakin - my person became very ill and could no longer care for me. But I've learned that the folks here are really nice, and have been patient and kind. I am hoping to find a similar adopter, someone who will be sensitive towards my stranger shyness, and use a calm and gentle approach. Once I feel comfortable, I'm a really lovable little guy. I can even get quite playful with all sorts of toys. I especially love silly squeaky toys! I might enjoy the company of another laid back dog.I was housetrained in my previous home. I only lived with adults so would be best in a home with older, mature children.
Name: Jack, Jeannie, and Juliet
Breed: Parakeets
Age: 2.5 years
Sex: Jack is a male. Jeannie & Juliet are females.
Color: Jack is blue. The girls are yellow and green.
About Jack, Jeannie and Juliet:
Budgies, also known as parakeets, are very social. In the wild, they fly free in large flocks with hundreds of birds! In a home, they need the company of other budgies as well as human attention. Bonded pairs of budgies, need to stay together for life. Families who adopt a bonded pair or group must commit to keeping them together and not to let them breed by removing eggs as soon as they appear.
Parakeets are very active and playful. They need lots of room to fly either in a large enclosure or supervised area. The cage they are in is a great size for their long term habitat. It offers plenty of room for them to spread their wings. Dakin asks adopters to either bring in the cage they intend to use or a picture of it before we send birds home.
Budgies love to play games of chase, climb around, play with toys, eat soft wood and paper toys and they LOVE leafy greens. Give parakeets a bowl of salad
greens and they will gobble them up. Greens are extremely nutritious. They need SAFE wood and chewable toys to keep their beaks and their minds occupied.
Parakeets can live 7 to 20 years with good care and a proper diet. Dakin can help you get off to the right start with parakeet pair or group. Budgies love to chat and twitter all day long. They are sure to bring a smile to anyone's face.
Name: Tiny
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier/Chihuahua
Age: 4.5 years
Sex: Spayed Female
Color: Tan
About Tiny:
I'm a feisty little girl who loves to play, play, play! I have endless energy and enjoy toys of all shapes and sizes. I love a good game of basketball, soccer, or volleyball with a balloon. I'm friendly meeting other friendly dogs like me. I will need help with housetraining. I can sometimes be nervous meeting new folks but if they go slowly and take their time, I will soon be jumping all around them for pets and attention. I lost my home due to a fire, and hope to find a new family to take care of me soon. I'd be best in a home with older, mature children. If you'd like to meet me in person, come on down to Dakin and see how adorable I am in person.
Name: Mr. Bojangles
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 7 years
Sex: Neutered Male
Color: Dilute Calico
About Mr. Bojangles:
Mr. Bojangles was dropped off at a remote farm. He was not in great shape when left behind having red and inflamed patches of skin, bad teeth, and a protruding eye likely from glaucoma. The family who found him brought him to Dakin. Through the Buddy Fund, his eye was removed making him so much more comfortable and his teeth were cleaned with a number of them requiring extraction. Through it all, Mr. Bojangles has remained the happy, affectionate, lap cat that he is today. Looking for a dog but a cat fits your lifestyle better? Meet Mr. Bojangles!
Name: Kendra
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 6 months
Sex: Spayed Female
Color: Dilute Calico
About Kendra:
Surprisingly, Kendra is one of the Hurricane Sandy cats that arrived at Dakin. It is surprising that such a sweet, outgoing, friendly kitty is still with us. She's been through a lot and is awaiting her new home.
