SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Mass Appeal) - Meet Mass Appeal's pet of the week!
Name: Jewel
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 2.5 Years Old
Sex: Spayed Female
Color: Tortoiseshell
About Jewel:
I am Jewel is one of the 20 cats and kittens who arrived last week from the Washington D. C. Humane Society. Affectionately dubbed the Capitol Cats, Dakin was happy to help our friends and colleagues in D. C. where there is always an abundance of cats and kittens at any time of year. We are fortunate to have fewer cats in our adoption center during the winter months. And while still being able to make our local cats in need of help our priority, we are able to reach out and help other areas in need. In some areas of the country, cats and kittens don't have the opportunity for a second chance like they do here in the Northeast.
When Jewel entered WHS, she was a recent mom. Her kitten had been adopted. Now at Dakin, she made the trip with the same joyful spirit she exemplified in Washington. She is playful as a kitten herself and extremely affectionate. She is the first to greet visitors in the big colony room with a hop up and a big ol' head butt (which in cat language means, I really like you. Let's be friends!)
Upcoming Events:
Beat the Heat – female cats fixed for just $20 at the Community Spay/Neuter Clinic. February only. Limited availability. Call the clinic 781-4019 to schedule an appointment and mention BTH. Program is funded by PetSmart Charities. More information online www.dpvhs.org.
Next Thursday is Valentine’s Day and that means Love Somebunny. Visit Dakin in Springfield and Leverett on Valentine’s Day from 12 noon – 7:30 p.m. and meet our wonderful adoptable bunnies. Find out why bunnies make great indoor pets. Every Dakin rabbit is spayed or neutered before going home.
