Teaching your child reading comprehension

SPRINGFIELD, MAss. (Mass Appeal) - Have you noticed that your child is capable of reading, but has trouble recalling what he or she reads, even immediately thereafter?

Deborah Alli, Executive Director at Huntington Learning Center shared a few of the basics of good reading.

Basics of good reading skills:

• Strong decoding ability
• Recognition of sight words
• Good comprehension
• Teach your child to question.
• Use visuals to help understand the story
• Help your child relate the story to him or herself. 
• Summarize often.
