WEST SIMSBURY, Conn. (Mass Appeal) - They delight their fans performing in a renovated barn on a rural Connecticut street.
Where did the name little house come from?
About 10 years ago my wife and four kids lived in a little house. So I made it bigger. I made it bigger and all the kids said we liked the little house better. That's basically the beginning.
"Scotland." Tell me about it.
It shows where I really come with my song writing. It's a little glimmer of truth I find and bring it out. Two decades ago I went to Scotland with my wife before the children. We were dying to go back. When we went back, it was still there. But the glimmer of truth. I was there with my wife, still alive, still together, still happy. That's where the song came from.
We're really an electric band. This is our unplugged version here today. It's a country rock and roll band. What happened was also maybe 10, 15 years ago I went down to Virginia to visit with Jeanette Carter from the Carter family. She was going to help me out with my song writing actually. When I was down there, they perform in a barn themselves. The Carter family and her brother built it. They had their little house there, by the way, too, just like I had mine. I said that's a good way to do it. So we renovated a barn I had on the property. It's got couches and benches and sound system, great sound system. We have people come in a very intimate setting on weekends to hear us perform.
Where do song writers find inspiration for the song?
It's finding the glimmer of truth and needing to describe it. When you describe it, you feel very good that you have and you learn from it. It's actually you really want to learn from what you see in life. You want to express. The song isn't all about me, but that one is. It can be something I see in this person or that person. It's what I want to do. Nothing can stop it.
