EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (Mass Appeal) - If there is one thing you should do in your lifetime, it's hang out with circus people... because they are so much fun!
I had the pleasure of hanging out with a crew during gym session at SHOW Circus Studio in Easthampton. I even got to try a few tricks myself. After a warm-up, we began with an exercise where we had to collectively make a shape. Next, I got a lesson on the basics of aerial fabric with aeriist Caroline Wright. Something I have always wanted to try. First, Caroline showed me how it is done. Then, I give it a whirl, no pun intended.
They really make it look so easy. It sure was a lot harder than I thought it would be and worked some muscles that I didn't know I had. Needless to say, I felt it the next day. Artistic director Henry and Christopher told me why circus arts are great activity for anybody to try.
Circus is really, really fun. It is just a fun way of getting a fantastic workout. It is not like going to a gym. Gyms are good for their thing. This is incredibly fun. I mean, you get on a trapeze or you are doing partner acrobatics. Someone balancing on your head. What could be more fun than that? I think with kids classes and adults, it sparks the imagination and good combination of specific skills and creative expression. Nice opportunity for people who are artistic and also have a lot more physical discipline than I think it is a good mixture of both.
Their goal is to build a vibrant circus community in the Pioneer Valley and make circus arts available to people of all walks of life. Well, western Massachusetts, if you didn't know before, now you know! It is never too late to learn the trapeze! In the circus world, anything is possible.
