About Long Radio:

In the roaring 1920’s, a radio set was the must have toy for all Americans. Battery, Crystal and early AC radio sets for the home were so popular that manufacturing giants like GE and RCA found it difficult to meet consumer demand.

With the birth of radio manufacturing and sales, the need for well trained repair people arose. In 1923 Mr. E.W.Long saw that need and opened a radio repair shop in Springfield Massachusetts. He called his new business E.W.Long Inc.

During the 1920’s & 30’s, with no shortage of radios needing repair and a great reputation for quality work, his new business was a success. As the times changed so did E.W.Long Inc. By the late 1940’s TV repair was added. In the 1950’s & 60’s America saw an explosion in car sales . As the demand for automobiles increased, manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler began offering AM radios as an option in their vehicles. With the introduction of the radio in the automobile, came the need for retailers and wholesalers of these radios for consumers and car dealers alike. Mr. Long again saw an opportunity, and so began their venture into sales and retailing. With this transition from service alone, to sales and service, came a change in name and ownership, and so E.W.Long Inc. began doing business as Long Radio under the direction of Walter Mitus. Long Radio once again lead the way in sales, installations and repairs of audio products demanded by consumers for their cars. By 1970 home radio and TV repair had all but gone.

The main focus in the 70’s & 80’s was automotive electronics. As new technologies were introduced first in the home, it was not long after that they were made available in the car. In the 70’s, car radios with eight tracks, and record players were all the talk. By the 1980’s those technologies were replaced by the cassette player, which then saw its demise to the cd player. Besides radios, other products such as CB’s, security systems, speakers and amplifiers were also popular items. This is also the time Long Radio began its close relationship with area car dealers , selling and installing the latest electronics and accessories in new cars. The 1990’s and into the new millennium we have lead the way in cutting edge electronics for the mobile lifestyle. We carry the newest in audio, video, navigation, safety, luxury and convenience. The latest decade also saw Long Radio leading the way in home electronics once again. We are proud of our success in the sales and installation of home theaters and distributed whole house audio systems.

Since 1923, under the direction of the Long, Mitus and now Imbriglio families, Long Radio has remained a locally owned and family operated business. We now have two retail locations serving the residents of Western MA, along with mobile sales and installation for car dealers in VT, NH, MA & CT. With the help of our loyal customers Long Radio will continue to be at the cutting edge of electronics and accessories for the home or on the go.
