CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) - They say laughter is the best medicine, but it also might be one of the best exercises.  Robert Rivest is the man behind Laughter Yoga and he came onto Mass Appeal to get us laughing while getting into shape.

What is Laughter Yoga?

Laughter Yoga combines interactive laughter exercises with deep centering breaths and calming movements. It is a complete “well-being workout” that creates a joyful connection with others
and enables participants to laugh more easily at life's travails.

Laughter Yoga was Founded in 1995 by a Medical Doctor from Mumbai, India named Dr. Madan Kataria. Motivated by his research on the psychological and physiological benefits of laughter he started a Laughter club in a local park. Today, it has become a worldwide phenomenon with more than 8000 Laughter Clubs in over 80 countries.

All Laughter Yoga movements can be adapted for EVERY BODY! No yoga mats or flexibility needed! Many people hear the words "Laughter Yoga" and think they will be asked to laugh while doing some impossible stretching pose. Laughter Yoga is simply connecting as a group with belly laughs and belly breaths and light playful movements. It can be performed gently (in a chair if needed) or standing and moving throughout the room with full energy and enthusiasm!

How does it work? Laughter is initially simulated in a group with full body laughter exercises, clapping, eye contact and youthful playfulness. The "simulated" laughter soon turns into real and contagious laughter that lifts our spirits and carries over into our everyday lives. This fun, energetic, "social exercise" gives participants a feeling of warmth and openness toward the people and situations around them.
