HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut officials are planning to honor veterans past and present by laying wreaths at cemeteries across the state in December.

Connecticut is participating in Wreaths Across America, a national program that began 16 years ago when Worcester Wreath Co. in Harrington, Me. started its own tradition of placing wreaths on headstones at Arlington National Cemetery.

Since then, the company has donated more than 100,000 wreaths, which are placed on graves each December by volunteers.

Linda Schwartz, the state's veterans commissioner, says Connecticut will hold more wreath-laying ceremonies this year than any other state.

There will be ceremonies at the state's three veterans' cemeteries in Middletown, Rocky Hill and Darien on Dec. 12.

Ceremonies are planned at other times at 32 other cemeteries and monuments.
