CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Westover A.R.B. in Chicopee is home to C-5's and some of the world's largest planes. On Saturday, the base helped sharpen the flight skills of pilots who fly much smaller aircrafts.

The Civil Air Patrol was on hand to simulate how they'd swing into action if a small plane were to crash in the Berkshires. Civil air patrol Commander Major Richard Werman told 22News, It's not just hypothetical either. He vividly remembers when a plane went down in the Berkshires during the dead of winter a few years ago.

"As soon as the dawn broke well trained cadets on the ground actually brought out three young children," recalled Werman. Saturday's events were just for training purposesbut as Major Werman points out, you never know when the C.A.P. will get the call to save lives during an actual emergency. The civil air patrol is an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force.
