Holyoke shooting victim dies

Victim claimed he could not identify the assailant

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The mid-day shooting in Holyoke that terrified dozens of witnesses has turned fatal.

Holyoke Police Captain Arthur Monfette told 22News that the 43-year-old victim has died after being shot in the stomach.

Captain Monfette says Holyoke resident Luis Fernandez died at about 5pm Sunday at Baystate Medical Center.

22News was on the scene seconds after shots were fired just before one 1pm Sunday afternoon.

It happened on the corner of Oliver Street and Lyman Terrace.

Lt. Denise Duguay told 22News the victim claims he could not identify the alleged assailant.

Dozens of local residents witnessed the shooting.

Police are still searching for the shooter.
