SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - On a sunny Spring morning, many Christians gathered at churches
across Western Massachusetts to celebrate Palm Sunday. During these
turbulent times, finding the strength to believe has become crucial
for many people.
Maria Lopez-Santiago of Springfield told 22News, “You
have to have something to believe in to keep going forward and
whether its spiritual or other belief that you have it carries you
through and it gives you that strength to continue.”
Palm Sunday is marked by the distribution of Palm leaves often
tied into crosses. The biblical tradition was a gesture of honor to
lay palm branches on the ground for Jesus, while he was entering
the holy city.
Palm Sunday is always a week before Easter Sunday, the day
Christians believe Jesus was resurrected. Rev. Shawn Wilson from
Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield said, “In the
face of tremendous job losses loosing their homes cars what grounds
us is the faith that we have in god you cant put a price tag on
that.”
With Easter only a week away, many worshipers are getting into
the spirit of the moment and not allowing worries to get the best
of them.
