NEW YORK (WWLP) - A rise in energy prices gave the Blue chips a boost in the last hour of trading. The Dow tacked about 30 points and the NASDAQ rose 6.

Bank of America's top executives were in the hot seat on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. They defended their merger with Merrill Lynch before a house oversight panel. After the merger Bank of America got billions more in bailout money to cover Merrill's losses. The company then used the bailout cash for bonuses.

Bargain hunters are giving one top retailer a boost. TJX says its third-quarter profit rose 32-percent, as shoppers looked for good deals at the discount retailer's chains. The operator of stores including T.J. Maxx and Marshalls reports that it earned about $348 million dollars in the past three months.
