WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - For many of us, they are life-lines, laptops and ipods. However when the batteries flat line there are ways to save on a replacement, without breaking the bank.
There are ways to bring it back to life without breaking the bank servicing it. New rechargeable lithium batteries sold directly from Apple cost between 49-75 dollars.
For the tech savvy i-user, various online outlets like ipodjuice.com sell battery replacement kits for do-it-yourself repairs for a lot less. Or you can pay for shipping and have them do it for you.
Whether you have a MAC or PC, if you find your computer battery is low on life there are several options. "New batteries run 75-100 for most laptops, more specialized go for a little bit more," said Steve Buynicki of Cyber Exchange.
Five years is the average life span. If it's time is up, bring it to a retailer or repair shop like Cyber Exchange for a special order diagnosis. "Bring the laptop in or we can suggest whether its an upgrade in memory, hard drive or upgrade battery if you need more battery space," said Buynicki.
A more powerful, longer lasting battery can cost between 150-200. These are better alternatives rather then replacing the entire unit.
When discarding your dead batteries make sure to dispose them in an environmentally friendly manner.
