Lt. Murray discusses Brownfield projects

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Plans are in the works to clean-up and develop more Brownfields in the state.

Lt. Governor Tim Murray joined community leaders and members of different economic development teams in Western Massachusetts to talk about developing Brownfields.

A Brownfield is land that is or could be contaminated but has the potential to be cleaned up and developed.

Over the last 4 years the state has developed several Brownfields as part of the Brownfield support team initiative and they're looking to announce new projects soon.

"Whether it be the Uniroyal site in Chicopee, The crane valve in Indian Orchard in Springfield, which is now a solar array bringing in revenue to the city and putting people to work those are the kinds of things we just want to continue to do and accelerate," Murray said.

The new projects could be announced in the next few months.

Murray adds, the projects create jobs and strengthen the tax base.
