Turnpike toll questions come up short

The money to maintain the Massachusetts Turnpike has to come from somewhere, and it appears many drivers agree that cash should come from the drivers who use the road.

The group Citizens Against Road Tolls filed two ballot questions to require the state to eliminate tolls on the Pike, the Tobin Bridge, and the Boston Harbor Tunnels.

However, they've fallen short of the number of signatures needed to put the questions on next year's ballot.

State Representative Joe Wagner, who is the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Transportation, says the tolls represent a user fee and that most of his constituents agree maintaining the highway with gas tax money would stretch the available funds too thin.
