WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - When it comes to retailers, Halloween is the second biggest shopping season of the year. But this Halloween may be scary business for some retailers as many cash strapped people are cutting back.
The National Retail Federation says Halloween spending is expected to decline this year by about $10 per person.
“I don't want to spend a lot of money on a costume for just one day, so I’m definitely bargain shopping,” Latrice Bosworth said.
Norman Freniere, the supervisor at Party Warehouse in West Springfield, said people are still spending money on full costumes, but seem to be skipping on accessories to save money.
“I think most people are making the sacrifice to spend money, especially because this is a special time for them and their kids,” Freniere said.
Many retailers know people are looking for a bargain right now, so look for promotions and discounts on costumes and other Halloween goodies.
