"Occupy" protests spread in Connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Protests against finance and business are picking up in Connecticut, spreading from Hartford to New London and New Haven.

The New Haven Register reports that Occupy New Haven is scheduled to kick off at noon Saturday with a march around the Green. Demonstrators say they will camp out indefinitely.

Tony Baldwin, a New Haven resident, said he established a website to share information beyond Facebook and Twitter, which he says are corporate-owned.

The Day of New London reports that protests began in New London Sunday and are planned for downtown each day until Oct. 24. Demonstrators distributed copies of the Declaration of the Occupation of New York City, a statement issued by Occupy Wall Street protesters that criticize corporations.

Protesters camping out in a Hartford park have been ordered by police to remove tents.
