WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) - Police are investigating a robbery that took place at an adult video store in Waterbury Saturday.

The robbery occurred around 4 p.m., at XTC World adult video store, located at 858 Lakewood Rd.

Waterbury Police said that the suspect, 28-year-old Donald Jalbert, of 24 Central Ave., entered the store, threatening the clerk with a realistic-looking facsimile handgun and demanding cash.

The 54-year-old store owner refused Jalbert's demands and began to struggle with him.

The store owner proceeded to chase Jalbert to the parking lot, continuing to struggle with him as he attempted to drive off in a burgundy Nissan Altima.

The store owner was dragged approximately 30 feet by the vehicle. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police later spotted Jalbert's vehicle traveling on Meriden Road. Jalbert then led police on a brief chase, before losing control of the vehicle and striking a guardrail on Todd Road.

Jalbert was charged with a variety of crimes including assault, robbery, and motor vehicle charges.

He is being held on $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court Tuesday morning.

Jalbert had past convictions for firearms and drug charges.
