EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — East Hartford police say a 24-year veteran officer has died after being found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at the police station.
Police said in a statement that Officer Paul Buchanan was found at about 9 a.m. Tuesday and taken to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
State police have been called in to investigate.
Police say Buchanan was a highly decorated officer who served in a variety of positions in the department, including community outreach officer and criminal investigator. He had two life-saving awards and several letters of commendation.
