ASHFORD, Conn. (AP) — State police say they're investigating the death of an 81-year-old man in Ashford in a shooting that was initially reported as accidental.

Troopers were called to Cotswold Drive shortly after 8 a.m. Monday. The street is in a residential neighborhood near the intersection of routes 44 and 74.

The man's name hasn't been released. Authorities say he was pronounced dead from an apparent gunshot wound at Windham Hospital.

A state police spokeswoman say troopers are now investigating whether the man committed suicide.
