NORWICH, Conn. (AP) — Norwich officials have closed a local middle school after a computer caught fire and activated the sprinkler system, which caused heavy water damage in parts of the building. No injuries are reported.
Firefighters responded to an alarm at Kelly Middle School shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday and found smoke coming from a science lab area on an upper floor. Water was pouring from the sprinkler system.
Officials say recently renovated parts of the school that house the seventh and eighth grades have extensive water damage.
Officials closed the school Monday and say they'll try to reopen it Tuesday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
