GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — Greenwich officials say five local teenagers who had to be hospitalized for intoxication last weekend started drinking before they arrived at a teen center dance.
First Selectman Peter Tesei and Kyle Silver, the executive director of the Arch Street teen center, said Wednesday that the teens had already been drinking alcohol before arriving at the center Saturday night. They said adults helping with security and checking bags and coats confiscated a liquor bottle at the center's entrance.
Silver defended the teen center earlier this week, saying it has a strict no-alcohol policy and had 28 adult chaperones at the dance.
The Greenwich Time reports (http://bit.ly/12dtMFl ) no charges have been filed against the teens, but police haven't ruled out criminal action.
Town officials met with Silver Wednesday about the teen drinking.
