MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Middletown police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a shaken baby case.
Police arrested 31-year-old Keith Loftus Thursday night after receiving a complaint about someone trying to break into cars at the YMCA.
Old Saybrook police had issued an arrest warrant for Loftus earlier this week. He was wanted on charges of assault on an infant.
Investigators say Loftus was watching his girlfriend's 7-month-old in September when the child suffered injuries consistent with abuse, and later determined to be "shaken baby syndrome."
Authorities say Loftus and the child's mother, 26-year-old Crystal Dorothy of Old Saybrook, had lied about how the infant's injuries occurred.
Dorothy appeared in Middletown Superior Court Tuesday on charges including risk of injury to a minor.
Loftus is expected to appear in court Friday.
