NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — A community group in New Britain is compiling an online database to help the homeless find food, health care, housing and other services.

The New Britain Herald reports (http://bit.ly/XUawJe ) that John Carey, an intern from Central Connecticut State University and an environmental geography major, is working on the database that maps places where the homeless in New Britain can find basic services.

Community Central, a program affiliated with the university, is gathering information about barriers that the homeless face and help them find work and take care of themselves.

Carey said he also wants to work with public libraries to get library cards to the homeless to read or use the Internet even if they can't check out books.
