WILTON, Conn. (AP) - Wilton residents have ditched the town's semi-dry status by
voting to allow liquor sales at package stores.
Town officials released the results of yesterday's
referendum this morning (Wednesday). The tally shows voters
approved the plan 2,363 to 1,801.
Residents had repealed Wilton's prohibition laws in 1992 to
allow restaurants in town to sell alcohol, but the ban on liquor
stores remained.
The Hour of Norwalk reports that the Board of Selectmen will
now have to enact a local ordinance allowing package stores in
town, which could take several weeks.
Under state law, no more than seven liquor stores would be
allowed in Wilton.
