CT package stores open New Year's Eve

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - New Year's Eve revelers in Connecticut will have more time to purchase their libations this year.

Due to a new law allowing retail liquor sales on Sundays, package stores will be open Sunday and Monday, New Year's Eve.

Package stores must remain closed, however, on Tuesday, New Year's Day. Also, no grocery stores will be allowed to sell beer that day.

Connecticut law allows alcoholic drinks to be served until 3 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 1 in bars, restaurants, clubs and other establishments.

However, local ordinances take precedence and may reduce those hours.

Restaurants, bars, cafes and casinos where food must be served are allowed to serve liquor on New Year's Day under their permits for normal operations.

The Sunday liquor sales bill became law in May.
