"Evil visited this community today"

NEWTOWN, Conn. (WWLP) - A quiet December morning changed quickly into an unthinkable tragedy.

It's a day people in Newtown, Connecticut and all around the community will always get a pit in their stomach when they think about.

"Evil visited this community today", says Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy.

School bells turned to gun shots at Sandy Hook Elementary School Friday morning.  The scanner was buzzing around 9:30am.

When Police got to the school, it was already too late.  18 young kids were dead, two more died at the hospital.  Six adults were killed.

"Responding to Sandy School at this time, the shooting appears to have stopped it is silent at this time, the school is in lockdown, we've got bodies here, get an ambulance here."

A massacre; shocking a community, many who just feel ill because of what happened.  A community that will eventually recover, but never forget.

"It's too early to speak of recovery, but each parent, each sibling, each member of the family has to understand that Connecticut, we're all in this together, we'll do whatever we can to get over this event", says Governor Malloy.

Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance told 22News the shooter's motive at this time is unclear.
