HARTFORD, Conn. (WWLP) - Firefighters who responded to the Sandy Hook shooting were honored Saturday at a parade, where they once again found themselves in an emergency situation.

Following the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Hartford, several people were injured by a hit-and-run driver.

Police say the driver of a red mustang hit three pedestrians, crashed into a pole and took off.

Fortunately, the Sandy Hook first responders were nearby because they had marched in the parade.

A spokesman for the mayor's office says the firefighters were the first to respond.

"We heard a big bang. It came around the corner and a red Mustang with a convertible top slammed into a pole here and was smoking out the front. There were several people around. The car backed up. And someone was yelling, 'Stop, stop, stop and it drove away and we saw the license plate number,” James Regan said.

Authorities say the three people hit by the car were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition.

The driver was caught.
