EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Officials are investigating an agency that runs an East Hartford home for mentally disabled people after a video was received showing what appears to be a female employee kicking a resident and dragging her by her hair.

The Hartford Courant reports (http://cour.at/NnkX1f ) that copies of the video were received anonymously by the state Department of Developmental Services; Options Unlimited Inc., the Bloomfield-based agency that runs the home; and WFSB-TV.

DDS spokeswoman Joan C. Barnish says after watching the video, "the person in question in the video" was placed on unpaid leave.

Options Unlimited spokesman Michael Lundie says in a prepared statement, "We are deeply saddened and appalled by this incident. As soon we became aware of it, we took prompt action."

DDS and East Hartford police are investigating.
