WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) - An elderly woman was arrested after bringing a bb gun and ammunition to a town meeting in Westport Tuesday night.

Around 9:15 p.m., an officer at the town hall meeting was approached by a board member reporting that himself and another board member believed a woman walked into the auditorium with a weapon under a white cloth.

The officer and a plain clothes detective then retrieved the bb gun rifle from the auditorium and located the woman in the main lobby.

The woman told police that she was planning to go up on stage when the topic of gun control came up and make a point to the audience on how easy it was for her to purchase the gun.

Additionally, the woman also had a box of pellets and a box of 45 ammunition with her at the meeting.

Estelle Margolis, 86, of Westport, was issued a misdemeanor summons for second-degree breach of peace.

She is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on January 18th.
