Marijuana from a vending machine?

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) - You can get soda, chips, and candy bars, all from a vending machine; but one company that just opened in Connecticut is offering something different from a machine: marijuana.

There are machines that are the choice of a new generation or those that give you a soda and a smile.

"Now you need to confirm that it's actually you, so you have a fingerprint...," said during a marijuana tour.

Welcome to a new generation: a machine that dispenses marijuana.

"It is the most safe, secure, legally compliant marijuana dispensary system available," said Dr. Bruce Bedrick.

Dr. Bedrick is CEO of Kind Clinics and Medbox, which recently opened an office in Hartford now that the medicinal marijuana bill is law. Bedrick says he's devised a hi-tech, fail-safe system that is being used successfully in other states.

"What's to stop me Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and keep taking this product," asked News 8's Jamie Muro.

"That's a great question and a benefit of the Medbox clinics model," said Dr. Bedrick. "The state is going to create certain limits can have in a certain time."

"There are so many minute details about this that we just don't know yet," said Muro.

"We don't know anything about it at all," Dr. Pras Srinivasan said. "As I said earlier, do we know the dosage? no!"

Dr. Srinivasan, a member of the Connecticut House says the state must choose carefully the system to properly distribute the controversial drug, but that won't be easy.

"This is supposed to be dispensed in a relatively ideal way," said Dr. Srinivasan. "What the ideal way is, we do not know."

Dr. Bedrick believes his outside the box thinking about the Medbox is ideal for Connecticut, but what the real thing will be for our state is yet to be revealed.

"Created a transparent, safe, secure, and legally compliant system," said Dr. Bedrick.
