Mock air crash drill Saturday at Bradley International Airport

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) - If you see lots of emergency vehicles near Bradley International Airport this coming weekend, don’t be alarmed- it’s just a drill.

Bradley will be the staging area for a mock disaster drill on Saturday morning around 8:30 A.M. As many as 25 different emergency agencies will participate in the exercise, which is set to simulate a plane crash.

Airport Administrator Eric N. Waldron says that the drill, which is required by federal law, is important not only for airport staff, but also for emergency departments in nearby towns.

“Bradley’s response to this realistic drill is an excellent tool for the entire Airport and surrounding communities to practice and assess their ability to respond to an actual aircraft emergency,” Waldron said.

According to a Bradley news release sent to 22News, the drill will take place in an area near Route 75 and Firehouse Road, which is known as the “Field of Champions.” It is the same area that is used as the “welcome home” site for returning Connecticut sports teams.

If you’re heading to the airport at the time of the drill, know that that Light Lane, between the Army Guard facility and Schoephoester Road, will be closed.
