HARTFORD, Conn. (WWLP-NBC) - It is New England’s other heavily-watched Senate race: the U.S. Senate election in Connecticut, and NBC News is projecting that Democratic Congressman Chris Murphy will represent the state in the U.S. Senate.

Murphy defeated Republican Linda McMahon, a wealthy wrestling executive, who contributed $42 million of her own money to her election effort.

This was McMahon’s second run for the U.S. Senate, having been defeated by now-Senator Richard Blumenthal in the 2010 election.
