GLASTONBURY, Conn. (WVIT) - A Glastonbury, Connecticut woman made a disturbing discovery while walking her dog near her home Saturday when they stumbled onto some human remains.

"She found what she believed to be a shallow grave. We responded out there and confirmed her suspicions," said Sgt. Rich McKeon of the Glastonbury Police Department.

Police wouldn't reveal the condition of the remains or the name of the woman who found them.

On Sunday, investigators blocked off the dirt road where the remains were found to gather more evidence.

"It's not a well-traveled area. It's remote and it's wooded, with just dirt trails going through it," McKeon said.

It's considered a quiet spot and some folks are surprised that such a gruesome discovery was made there.

"We bike by there a lot. We hike a lot, but I'm shocked," said Brandon Munson.

Glastonbury police said there were no open missing persons cases in the town.

Investigators said for now, they’re in the preliminary stages.

Connecticut State and Glastonbury police are looking into the findings.
